Too busy to date while he worked to put himself through school, Russell Bishop's dedication finally pays off; he has a great job with Vantage Marketing. Stephen Parker, CFO of the marketing firm, has resigned himself to a life without a partner. For six months, they wanted each other but it isn’t until Russ slips on spilled coffee, and Stephen rushes to his rescue that they discover their attraction is mutual. However, the twenty year age gap between them proves difficult when they begin dating. Fiercely independent, Russ isn't sure he's ready for long-term commitment. Scarred from a previous relationship, Stephen is afraid history is repeating itself. Is there any way for them to meet in the middle and become equals?
---
As if he’d heard Stephen’s thoughts, Russ straightened and turned his head before hopping in a half circle to face him, smiling widely. “Hey. Didn’t hear you come in.”

Stephen realized he still hovered in the doorway and he stepped forward and let it shut behind him. “Hi. How was your day?”

Russ leaned back against the counter, all of his weight on his uninjured foot. “Once I got over being pissed at you, not bad.”

Stephen gave him a wry smile. “I am sorry; I didn’t mean to come off heavy-handed.” He set the bags in his hands on the counter and walked closer to Russ. “I was worried about you.”

Russ laid a hand on Stephen’s chest, fingers curling around his tie. “I’m a big boy; I can take care of myself.”

Stephen nodded, stepping closer so his feet were between Russ’ but careful not to bump the injured ankle. “I am sure you can,” Stephen said calmly. “But I feel at least somewhat responsible for your accident.”

“I don’t blame you for it.”

“I know you don’t.” For a few heartbeats, they looked at each other until Russ tugged at the tie. Stephen didn’t lean in, but it didn’t take a genius to decipher his intention. He looked up at Stephen and spoke quietly. “It feels strange to be wearing your clothes and sleeping in your bed when we haven’t so much as kissed.”

Stephen’s voice was husky. “Was that a hint?”

“No.” Russ wet his lips. “But this is a demand I want you to kiss me.”

“I can do that.”

This is the first book I have read by Brigham and I loved it.

Russell Bishop (Russ) had it rough growing up. His mother left after giving birth to his younger sister. His father not knowing what to do with a infant girl sent Addie to live with his sister. Working hard to pick up the slack when it was just the two of them, Russ worked for everything he got. So when Stephen comes into the picture, Russ doesn’t know what to do about Stephen’s kindness.

Stephen Parker never thought he would find love again, but after the incident with Russ, he is happy that they got to spend time together. Even if he is the one that injured Russ. Stephen is the take charge kind of guy, and he has met his match with Russ, who doesn’t take to kindly to being dictated to out side of the bedroom. Can these two men over come their issues or are they doomed from the start?

I loved Stephen and I also felt sad for him. He had some insecurities when it came to his relationship with Russ, but he worked on them so that they could be together. I liked Russ, but not as much as I liked Stephen and I’m not that big on reading books with older men. I felt sometimes Russ was acting ungrateful when Stephen did things for him. I know a man has his pride and everything, but dang. I wanted to tell him to get over himself and take the help as it was needed.

The story was well written and I can’t wait to read Partners, though I skipped ahead and read Family. The third book in the Equals series, but shush don’t tell anyone.

It was a nicely paced almost insta-love romance. The book right from the very beginning had me guessing. I honestly thought the office incident would happen a few chapters in and not from the the word go. That is just one instance where I thought it would go the normal route and completely went the other direction. That was the one thing I liked about this book.

The story of Russ and Stephen was nice. I guess I was just hoping for more of a story. The chemistry between the two characters was pliable. Their background story's however, I found lacking. The story was mainly about them and the hang-ups each one had that interfered with their relationship.

Overall, it was a nice quick read.
The May/September attraction between Stephen and Russ drew me in, and there was some nice payoff, especially with a few of the hot sex scenes.

A few things work against the book as a whole, though. First, the lack of any real plot or subplot external to their relationship had me claustrophobic. This was exacerbated by the second, bigger problem, which was that the relationship between Stephen and Russ isn't developed to its full potential. We're told how they complete each other and how tuned in to one another they supposedly are, but I never felt that deep connection come through in their dialog, or in the choices they made in the relationship. And the big downfall was how the inevitable misunderstanding which causes the bulk of the dramatic tension in the story hinges on one character not sharing a critical event from his past with the person he is supposedly so close to, despite it being relevant to the issue that is causing the majority of the strife in their relationship. Flawed characters are great, but the way this played out felt contrived for the convenience of the plot. The last quarter of the book got bogged down in too much internal monologue rehashing of all the problems the reader has already been wading through since these guys first hooked up.

One of the best bits of the final stretch was the two MCs reflecting on why they are each in love with the other. Beautiful imagery there. In those moments, I believed in their love.
I have always liked May-December romance stories. This one did not disappoint at all. Steven and Russ have met at work, and Russ gets hurt one morning after a mishap in a stairwell. After a trip to the er, Steven takes Russ home to help him out. They both realize they are attracted to each other, and decide to let things happen. Both of them have some issues...Steven being much older than Russ, and Russ having a hard time accepting help in the financial arena. This leads to a number of fights and misunderstandings on both sides. But, they love one another and come to realize these issues are not worth giving up a lifetime of love over. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. I really enjoyed this book!
This is a very enjoyable story of two beautiful men brought together by an unfortunate accident. They work in the same building on the same floor and they both had noticed each other over a period of months but never did anything about it. Stephen is the CFO, 47 years old, beautiful and lonely. He liked men much younger than himself, but because of a relationship years ago which scarred him, he thought he would never find someone to love or would love him. Russ is in the marketing department, beautiful, but 20 years younger than Stephen. The two get together when the accident happens since Russ slipped on the coffee than Stephen had spilled. The attraction was palpable and Stephen felt responsible for it, but Stephen is one who has money and has no problem wanting to help financially without even thinking about it. That is where the problem lies....Russ doesn't take handouts and wants to take care of himself in that regard. The two fall in love, but Stephen's past of a love lost brings up his insecurities of losing Russ either to a younger man or in an accident. Stephen is all about safety when it comes to Russ. The process of love as it evolves through the ghosts of the past and the honesty that must be understood. Loved this story and the characters. Its hard enough to navigate this life through the struggles and how we were brought up, but its even harder to take the chance on a deep love that brings the much needed Happiness that will change a lifetime... If you like MM Love and Hot Sex, you will love this. This is the first of the Equals Series. Will definitely be there with both Stephen and Russ as they navigate through their life
